The increased use of cell phones has caused pay phone revenue to drop about 25 percent for SBC.
The phone company says the number of pay phones has shrunk to about 14 and a-half thousand from about 27,000 in Wisconsin three years ago.

The American Public Communications Council represents independent pay phone firms. The group says there are about 1.9 million phones nationwide -- down from 2.6 in 1997.
