The members of the Golden Growler Club know beer.
They should, they make it and today, these non-professionals got a chance to pit their beer against others to let the some judges, who are professionals, decide who's is the best.
Who needs bacon and eggs for breakfast when you can have barley and hops instead.
This what the judges in the Golden Growler competition say when they get ready for a day of beer tasting.
More than 60 different types of beer from all over the country were entered into the event.
And those receiving the judges critiques say its good advice. Lisa Hare says, "There is too much of this, there's not enough of that, maybe your temperatures too hot when your fermenting."
Craig Ziolkowski who is a judge says, "The whole thing of facet of judging is really interesting because it allows us to work w a product and give them feed back in the end and give the individual hoping what there looking for and the experience of putting their beer in the judging."
"I've re brewed stuff and its come out a lot better that i think personally some of the beers in today's judging are better the 2ND time around,"says Hare.
She also says the advice she has received in previous competitions has helped her make good tasting beer.
So with the words of encouragement from the judges, and experience to boot, the one beer that prevails in taste, smell, and appearance wins bragging rights to the Golden Growler.
The making of a good beer may seem like an art to some but for most brewers here, the fun is all in the taste.
The event was sponsored by Hereford and Hops restaurant.
And the winner of the Traveling Golden Growler is Jason Vanpee of the Wisconsin Dell's United Frequent Fermenters
