A missing Notre Dame student from Merrill is the fifth disappearance of a young person in the Midwest since Oct. 30.

There is no evidence linking the cases, but the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point is taking the opportunity to remind students to be cautious when they go out at night. Campus police it's best if students go out in groups, and they can also call for a ride if they find themselves in a situation where they have to walk somewhere alone.

"We have various spots on the campus where we can pick students up, and bring them to anywhere in the community." John Taylor, acting director for campus protective services said. "That's a free service that we offer.

"We have a five-mile radius that we can drop people off." Taylor said. "If a person happens to live outside the five mile radius, we'll still drop that person off."

Taylor says it's better to be cautious than to risk being hurt.
