Marshfield will soon be among Wisconsin cities with an indoor smoking ban starting this Sunday.
Throughout Wisconsin, cities like Madison, Appleton, and Eau Claire have ordinances that prohibit smoking inside businesses.
And Marshfield is now on the list, after residents overwhelmingly approved the ban in the last election.
The Marshfield Police Chief says they will be enforcing the rule Sunday morning, not what we would consider late Saturday night.
Chief Joe Stroik says, "We are going to be using some common sense number one, we are not going to be enforcing this at one minute after 12 on Sunday morning "
With the new smoking ban soon to be in effect business owners worry how this will effect them.
The Viaduct Bar owner MaryLou Duerr says, “I already have a men's pool team that say they will not shoot for me they will shoot five miles out of town where they can smoke, and that area is actually thinking about getting out to the Marshfield league."
MaryLou also says she is concerned about the definition of indoors, and what the local law enforcement considers a legitimate area to smoke in.
Chief Stroik says, "Obviously if there is 4 walls and a roof that is indoors, now if there's 3 walls and a roof and a portion is wide open for open air. I've lead to believe by our common council that is outdoors.
Chief Stroik also says they will allow time for the community to get used to the new city ordinance, by giving some time to get used to the change before they start issuing tickets.
