The attorney for the former City of Wausau employee who is suing the City for sex discrimination is denying the timing has anything to do with Tuesday's mayoral election.

Wendy Jasurda is facing criminal charges for allegedly using the Community Development Authority credit card for personal use.

In the complaint filed with the State Department of Workforce Development, Jasurda claims she was not given a chance to explain the questionable use of a CDA's credit card before she was fired.

Jasurda's boss, Mike Morrissey, was forced to pay back more than $500 he received as reimbursement from the agency, but was never held accountable.

Jasurda also alleges Morrissey and another CDA employee, Kristin Fish, repeatedly used their city-issued cell phones for personal text messages, costing the city hundreds of dollars, but were never held accountable.

Morrissey did not return NewsChannel 7's phone call, but refused to comment to the Wausau Daily Herald whether he and Fish had a personal relationship.

Morrissey also told the Herald that Jasurda planted the accounting error that eventually led him to pay the city more than $500 back.

Wausau Mayor Jim Tipple said at Tuesday night's City Council meeting that the timing of the issue is suspect, but needs to be taken seriously.

Tipple went on the say the City, County and City's insurance agency would investigate the matter.

City Council President Deb Hadley, who is Tipple's opponent in the April 1 election, tells NewsChannel 7 that the case has nothing to do with her campaign and that she has not had any contact with Jasurda.

Hadley calls the entire situation very unfortunate.

Morrissey is on paid leave from his position as Community Development Director - Tipple will take on Morrissey's position until the issue is settled.

Jasurda was fired after allegations that she used the CDA credit card for $1600 worth of personal purchases.

She has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor theft from a business and is free on a $1000 signature bond.

A jury trial is scheduled for May 28.

City Attorney Bill Nagle tells NewsChannel 7 that there is no written policy in the City of Wausau prohibiting a supervisor from dating a subordinate.

However, if a problem rises because of it, the issue can be reviewed on a case by case basis.

Nagle also says the City has not been officially served with Jasurda's lawsuit.

When the paperwork is received, it will be reviewed by the proper city officials and city's insurance company.
