Marathon County Teen Guilty

A Marathon County teen has pleaded no contest to first-degree reckless homicide in the shooting death of his grandmother.

Fifty-six-year-old Laura Bessette was shot and killed on December 26, 2001 while she was washing dishes in her town of Norrie home.

Fifteen-year-old Brian Bessette Junior is expected to live at the Lincoln Hills School for Boys in Irma for about a year.

He'll have to complete a five-year serious juvenile offender program during a 20-year probation. The program requires him to live in a halfway house when he's released from the boys school.

Marathon County District Attorney Jill Falstad says the only chance Bessette has to be rehabilitated is through the most intensive treatment in the juvenile facilities.
