New Year, New Laws

Another new year is approaching, as is another set of new Wisconsin laws.

Most Wisconsin bills become law soon after the Legislature and the governor approve them. But state legislators decided seven should take affect on New Year's Day.

Starting then, death certificates won't list how a person died.

Only immediate family, direct descendants, government workers and others with a "direct and tangible interest" will have access to the information for 50 years after the person's death.

Another change makes the state agriculture department responsible for the fight against Chronic Wasting Disease on deer farms.

There'll also be stronger sanctions against medical assistance providers who overbill Medicaid, regulations on wine shipping and insurance coverage for diabetes medication.
