Donations Sought for Disabled Dog in Portage County

A group of caring volunteers is raising funds to help a disabled dog in Portage County.

Back in 2011, Baxter came to the Humane Society of Portage County as a stray. When he was tested for heartworms, it came back positive. Baxter was treated, but one possible side effect of the drug was paralysis. He is no longer able to use his hind legs, but with the use of a cart he is still able to get around.

Baxter's friends are raising money for an MRI so doctors can figure out what went wrong. Once enough funds are raised he will have an operation in the hope that they can restore strength and mobility to his hind parts.

Baxter will also need a good home looking for a good home. "He's definitely going to need someone that's going to be there full-time, he is a full-time job, preferably, someone that's home all the time or works from home," said Makayla Schultz, who's fostering Baxter. He's like any other dog and I think because of his situation he has just a little bit more love to give that person that's going to adopt him and give him a forever home," says Schultz.

If you're interested in adopting Baxter, call the Humane Society of Portage County at (715) 344-6012.
