Starting next May, Stevens Point Police Officers will have their schedules and shifts changed.
Officers will work 12-hour shifts instead of the current eight. They will work for four days and then take four days off.
It works out to the same number of hours for the year, but officers like it better because it will give them more time with their families.
The city will also benefit, because with only two shifts there will be one more officer on the schedule at all times.
It will also create a deeper off duty pool of officers in the case of an emergency, because each shift of seven officers will be matched with another shift of seven on their off days.
