Reporter Amanda Lutz is being honored by the national organization "Unlocking Autism." The group recognizes journalists' work for bringing autism into the limelight.
Last year, Amanda followed a Medford family's efforts to get in-home therapy for their autistic son.
Since it aired, a Green Bay-based company now offers the therapy in Taylor County. And the families who now receive the therapy say it's really made a difference.
"It really has helped us to find some type of help for our children, like Connor, to be able to function in society," says Laurie Keefe, whose seven-year-old son now receives the in-home therapy.
Autism now affects one in 166 children, and is one of the most common developmental disorders in children.
