MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A 16-year-old girl has testified against her father, who's on trial for allegedly starving her.
She told a Dane County jury Friday that her father kept her locked in the basement, and that she slept on a dirty mattress with mold and other stains. She described years of physical and verbal abuse by her father, and said she was always hungry.
District Attorney Ismael Ozanne told jurors earlier in the trial she weighed just 68 pounds when she ran away about 13 months ago.
The defense has said the girl had adequate food and clothing available, but chose not to dress appropriately or eat well.
The Associated Press isn't naming the Madison man to avoid identifying the girl, who has alleged her stepbrother tried to sexually assault her.
