Companies Looking to Cut Health Insurance Costs

Jeffrey Kostecki is a Marathon Electric employee, and he found out last week that his wife would no longer be covered by his health insurance.

Marathon Electric is using a policy called spousal carving. If any employee's spouse can get health insurance at their own job they have to take it.

In Jeffrey's case, his wife will have to take her more expensive coverage, even though it isn't as good.

Having two single policies instead of one family policy will cost them an extra $100 a month.

Marathon Electric says they can't afford to continue to absorb the rising cost of health insurance, and this was a better method than just raising the cost of the premium.

The change will go into effect July 1.
