Some local middle school students are applying the lessons they're learning to real life situations.
Students at Colby Middle School are running a business to help and give back to the community. It's called the Colby Middle School Baby Blanket Company.
The class decided to make and sell baby blankets last year; they will then use the proceeds to buy more supplies and make more blankets.
The blankets will get donated to hospitals and shelters. The students say they are learning both about charity and free enterprise.
Eighth grader Darcie Ertz says, "I like the community service just because you get that feeling of helping people, and I like the business part just to give you experience from it."
This year they've worked on the production phase, which will continue into next year; then they'll work on marketing the product and sales.
If you'd like to buy a Colby Middle School baby blanket, you can call the CMS office at (715) 223-8869.
