It's not the news any family wants to get, especially so close to the holidays.
Canadian National announced Tuesday that 84 railroad mechanical service jobs between the Stevens Point and Fond du Lac locations will be cut. Thirty of those workers may have the option of being relocated to a plant south of Chicago.
In all, the company plans on laying off more than 1,000 employees in Canada and the United States.
A Canadian National spokesperson says it's part of a new drive to improve productivity.
The layoffs are expected to happen over the next couple of months.
