Minneapolis-based Gander Mountain, a sporting goods retail chain is the only retailer selling home testing kits for chronic wasting disease.
The store has been selling the kits for months, but recently the Mosinee store has lowered prices by approximately 80 percent.
The kits originally cost $52.95, but are now on sale for $9.99. The store manager says the dramatic price cut is to encourage people to go out and hunt deer.
"If we don't harvest them this year, " says Tom Keenan, manager of the Mosinee store, "I don't know how many they're going to be next year."
The USDA has not approved the testing kits.
