In Marathon County there have been at least 15 grass fires in the month of December.
The area received 2/10 of an inch of precipitation in November, and so far there has been none this month.
Foresters and the DNR said without any snow cover there is nothing to stop the fire from spreading rapidly.
People should make sure they have a burning permit, and that there is little or no wind when they burn brush piles.
