A record-setting sturgeon is now back in the Wolf River near the Shawano Dam after DNR wardens tagged and released the 240 lbs. fish.
DNR biologist Ron Bruch says the female had already laid some eggs about 30 lbs. of eggs. The 125-year-old sturgeon measured 87.5 inches.
The previous record was a 212 lbs. sturgeon from the Lake Winnebago system in 2010.
The DNR tags and releases sturgeon each year as part of a population study. The Lake Winnebago system has one of the largest populations of lake sturgeon in the world.
