A Baraboo man is charged with attempted first degree intentional homicide after he’s accused of trying to kill his childhood babysitter.
Matthew Lucas, 37, is accused of hitting 52-year-old Tina Martin with a lamp and a vodka bottle. According to WMTV- TV, a Baraboo Police Officer responded to Bump's Bar at 10:54pm on February 18 and met Martin, she was beaten severely and bleeding from a large laceration on the back of her head. The officer also noticed bruising on her back, both arms and legs, on her chest and apparent fractures to her arms, and possible fractures to her face and chest.
Martin stated that Lucas kicked her several times, hit her with a vodka bottle, beat her with a lamp and threatened to kill her. The incident happened at her apartment where she used to babysit Lucas when he was a child.
The criminal complaint says, the two met up at a convenience store. Lucas offered to help her pack up her apartment because she was moving. When they got to her apartment, they started packing and drinking. As they were watching a movie, Lucas went into the bathroom, came back to the sofa and hit her with a lamp so hard it knocked her out of her recliner. He reportedly told her she "was going to die."
If convicted, Lucas faces 60 years in prison.
