WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (AP) -- There's a new nickname at Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids.
On close vote, the school board Monday dropped red from the Red Raiders nickname and will create a new mascot.
A student member of the board, Brittany Glaza, says even though some American Indians might be indifferent to Red Raiders, the opinions of those opposed to it must be considered.
But board member Greg Swank says he doesn't see the need for a new nickname and that the word "red" doesn't have to be tied to a specific ethnic group.
