Northcentral Wisconsin is filled with tons of small towns and a few larger ones here and there, and while many people think an advantage to living outside of a big city is living without drug problems, it may be time to reconsider.

According to Sue Nowak, a drug prevention specialist, says "Many of the drugs that we are seeing in the bigger cities we are seeing here in Wausau. So it doesn't matter what population you live in, it's here."

Nowak advises parents to familiarize themselves with these drugs including what they look like, the paraphernalia, as well as the effects they have on the body. She says awareness is key in prevention.

She says there is no one type of child that can fall victim to drug addictions. If the chemicals are visible or easily accessible children may have the urge to experiment.
