Students Tested on Material Not Yet Taught

Updated: Thu 6:48 PM, Nov 07, 2002

Some eighth-graders in Mosinee are frustrated they haven't been taught some of the material the state's standardized tests are quizzing them on.

The tests used to be handed out in spring, but schools are now required to give the tests in November.

In the past, the results wouldn't be available until summer, so to get scores back during the year, the test dates were moved up.

The questions are based on standard benchmarks set by the state, and some teachers haven't covered the material before the test.

Moving the test date up only increases the amount of material that hasn't been covered and teachers say there's a chance some kids could get so frustrated they stop trying on the test.

Mosinee kids are done testing, but the rest of the state has until the end of the month to finish.
