Deer Disposal

The Wisconsin Medical Society says the state needs to provide more dumpsters for hunters to dispose deer carcasses.

That's just one recommendation the society made yesterday on how to deal with Chronic Wasting Disease.

The society also wants all meat processors who butcher venison to be licensed to ensure they follow proper procedures. They want hunters to wear latex gloves and use disposable knives and saws to butcher deer. And they say hunters should not cut across the spinal cord to make steaks or roasts.

In the report, the Society says there's "no scientific evidence" CWD can be transmitted to humans, but because of the long latency period for the disease, the final answer will remain uncertain until more data is developed.
