A Father's Pride and Fear

The uncertainty of war with Iraq has many families in our area sitting on pins and needles as their sons and daughters in the military could be sent in at any moment.

Mike Pierce is an assistant chief with the Wausau Fire Department. He is also the proud father of 25-year-old U.S. Army Captain Sarah Pierce.

She flies the apache attack helicopter, a weapon that played a key role in America's first attack on Iraq.

For Pierce, the idea of his daughter going to war in that territory presents mixed feelings of pride and concern.

"Sure I'm proud of her. But, that doesn't mean that I don't worry. It doesn't mean that I don't have fear once in a while," said Mike Pierce.

Pierce also said that if America goes to war with Iraq it is still up in the air whether his daughter will be deployed.
