NEW INFO: No Charges Against Deputy Who Accidentally Shot Woman

No charges will be filed against a Vilas County Deputy who accidentally shot a woman.

According to a news release, Deputy Sheriff Ty Peterson was off duty when he thought he was being attacked by cougar, which he had seen in his yard earlier in the day. Peterson responded with deadly force shooting the woman who was allegedly attempting to prank the officer. Peterson was using his department issued handgun.

The incident happened July 25th around 9:14 p.m. in Abor Vitae.

Peterson is a 12-year veteran of the Vilas County Sheriff's Department.

A 20-year-old woman is reported to be doing fine according to Vilas County Sheriff Frank Tomlanovich.
