Nine felony charges have been filed in a head-on collision that killed two people and injured seven others in Portage County.

Twenty-year-old Paul Thao is facing two counts of first degree reckless homicide and seven counts of first degree reckless injury.

According to court documents, Thao and a group of friends were driving to a lake in three separate cars. The criminal complaint went on to say one of his passengers said the driver of the first car didn't know where he was going and told Thao to pass.

Increasing his speed to about 75 miles per hour, Thao began to pass the two cars in front of him.

Thao admits he knew he was passing in a no passing zone and stayed in the other lane for at least 20 seconds before hitting an oncoming car.

Paul Thao will be back in court next month for a preliminary hearing.

Meantime, the six victims in the hospital are improving. But, a 15-year-old girl remains in critical condition.
