Health Careers Day at Newman High School

Hundreds of kids from all over North Central Wisconsin descended upon the Newman High School gymnasium Thursday. More than 400 kids from 14 different schools came to hear about careers in health care.

Some of the young people say they already knew they were interested in going into medicine.

"I'd like to be a doctor," said 14-year-old Kevin Cotter from St. Matthews.

Cotter says even though he thinks he already knows what he wants to do when he grows up, he really enjoyed coming to Health Careers Day.

"I like seeing how the babies are formed and all the different mechanics that they use with the little things," said Cotter.

"It's great to see so many students here getting all the information from the different vendors and just getting them interested in health care," said Michelle Blies, the Youth Volunteer Coordinator at Wausau Hospital.

The kids who came to the event in the Newman High School gym got to talk one-on-one with professionals in more than 30 health-related occupations.

Health Careers Day was sponsored by the Volunteers for Wausau Hospital.
