Doyle Won't Cut Education Spending

Gubernatorial candidate Jim Doyle says Wisconsin's schools and universities are its greatest asset -- and he won't cut school funding to balance the budget.

Doyle made his comments to a group of business leaders at the third annual Wisconsin Economic Summit in Milwaukee Wednesday.

Doyle's speech came one day after a bipartisan group of former state leaders said Wisconsin needs to raise sales taxes and cut funding for education to balance the budget.

Both Doyle and Gov. McCallum have made balancing the budget the key issue in their campaigns for governor.

Doyle says it's the investment in education that will bring economic growth and well-paid jobs to the state.
