Gov. Scott McCallum says some Wisconsin deer hunters will get a new pamphlet describing Chronic Wasting Disease in the mail.
Whitetails Unlimited and the state Tourism and Natural Resources departments produced 180,000 copies of the brochure. One hundred thousand will be mailed to a random sampling of the state's licensed hunters.
The rest of the free pamphlets will be available at Wisconsin Travel Information centers, DNR service centers, sport consumer shows and statewide listening sessions on the disease planned for this fall.
The brochure includes facts about the disease as well as phone numbers and Web site links for more information.
The disease, which causes deer to lose weight and die because of sponge-like holes in the brain, has been found in 31 deer in the Mount Horeb area and in a game-farm deer in Portage County.
