Another hearing in Marathon County Circuit Court finds a 14-year-old boy competent to stand trial in the death of his grandmother.
It's the second competency hearing for Brian Bessette of Armstrong Creek. The boy is charged with first-degree reckless homicide in the Dec. 26 death of 56-year-old Laura Bessette.
Police say the boy aimed a muzzleloader at her through a narrow opening between two shelves at her rural Eland home and shot her once in the back.
Bessette spent a month at Mendota Mental Health Institute. He was later found competent. But, the defense had asked for a second competency hearing.
