Heating Costs

By: Associated Press

It could cost a lot more to stay warm this winter.

Economists with the state Public Service Commission say the average cost of heating a home will increase 26 percent to $611.

That's because of increases in the price of natural gas.

We Energies, which provides natural gas for the Milwaukee area, predicts home-heating costs will be about 16 percent higher than last year.

But We Energies and the Public Service Commission say their projections are preliminary. Variables ranging from the severity of the winter, the economy and a potential war with Iraq could change those figures.
