Central Wisconsin is the home to the largest student-run radio station in the Midwest. That's a reputation the students at UWSP's 90 FM would like to uphold.

The radio station invited listeners to help out with the 9th Annual Radiothon this past weekend. It's one of their four major fundraisers of the year. Local community members donate items which callers bid on for an hour.

Station Manager Courtney Sikorski says, "All the money that is raised goes directly to the station here at 90 FM and it helps with some of the capital costs like big equipment, new CDs, stuff like that."

The station has 11,500 Watts, which Sikorski says is quite impressive for college radio, but they are still hoping to increase their signal.

She says, "We're looking to upgrade some of our technology. Over the last year we've done quite a bit with a board, some new fax machines, basically some new equipment."

Tim Krogman, a.k.a. “D.J. Grandaddy,” says they're talking about getting a new transmitter and they're counting on the listeners to help them out.

Some of the top selling items included an aquarium donated by Scales and Tails and gift certificates to area restaurants.

“Granddad” also stacked an acoustic guitar case with CDs and auctioned off his Granddad Acoustic Revival Package. It sold for almost $300, but the item that received the highest bid was the opportunity to join the Saturday Morning Freak Show. That sold for $400.

The goal of the Radiothon was $6,000. As of Saturday evening, they had collected $3,600.
