One man is dead and another is in serious condition after an explosion at the Canadian National Railroad yard in Stevens Point.

The two men were electrical welding an air cylinder in the "Round House" just before 11 a.m. when the explosion occurred.

A 44-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 34-year-old man underwent surgery for facial and head injuries at St. Michael's Hospital, and his injuries are not considered life threatening.

A company spokesman says the men were 10-year veterans, and experienced with what they were doing.

The air cylinder was intact after the accident, and the cause of the explosion is still under investigation.

Because this was an industrial accident, OSHA will work with the Federal Railroad Administration on the investigation.
