State veterinarian Clarence Siroky says a deer killed on a private hunting preserve in Portage County earlier this month had Chronic Wasting Disease.
That's the first case of the incurable disease in Wisconsin's captive deer herd.
Siroky says the deer was killed September fourth and tests results came back Wednesday.
He says animals at the game farm have been quarantined. He would not name the game farm.
Siroky says records also trace the infected deer to a game farm in Walworth County and he says animals there have been quarantined as well.
Since February, the state has known CWD has infected deer in the Mount Horeb area of southwest Wisconsin. Portage County is in central Wisconsin.
Siroky says state wildlife experts intend to sample some wild deer near the Portage County farm as a precaution.
