It brings some of the best anglers from across the world, right here to central Wisconsin. It’s the 10th Annual World Ice Fishing Championships.
The event starts Saturday morning, but already, competitors are excited to get out on the ice.
Teams from 12 different countries spent their afternoon getting to know one another at the Grand Theater in downtown Wausau.
The meet-up gave the athletes from other countries an idea for what they can expect while enjoying their time in Wausau.
Competitors say they're excited for the opportunity and time they are getting to spend right here in central Wisconsin.
Jacky Gawlanski, Coach of Poland ‘s Ice Fishing Team, says his team has enjoyed their time in Wisconsin. "It’s a beautiful town, and the people are so nice. The hotel is pretty nice too. It’s great, I love Wisconsin and I love Wausau."
Along with Poland, there are teams from Estonia, Finland, Japan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Mongolia, Sweden, Ukraine, and the United States. The Czech Republic is also here for the tournament, but they will be observing this year only.
The competition starts at 9am Saturday morning.
