Plover Police Chief Has New Postion

Updated: Wed 6:41 PM, Sep 18, 2002

In a move to quiet critics, Plover Village Board President Ken Shibilsky appointed Police Chief Roger Zebro to the very committee that will research whether Plover needs a Police Department.

The village is looking to save money on law enforcement costs, and the AD HOC committee is charged with finding savings, either by merging with nearby Stevens Point, or disbanding the P.D. and contracting with the Portage County Sherriff's Department for protection.

With Chief Zebro on board, the committee will have a definite voice for saving the police, but the committee chairman says police input is vital to the committee reaching a fair and educated decision.

The committee will begin by researching other towns placed in similar situations and how they resolved their law enforcement costs.

They hope to present their findings to the Village Board by early next year.
