Some parents are getting concerned about a contract deadlock between Wausau teachers and the school district. This comes after some of their children's after school clubs and sports are being cut back.

In response, the school district Wednesday held a news conference to let parents know it has put its best offer on the table. But, there is still no agreement from the teachers.

Now, talks that are usually held behind closed doors are being aired to the public.

"We are seeing situations now where the strategies the union is deploying is becoming more public. The picketing if you will," said Superintendent Dr. Charles Skurka.

Many parents feel as long as there is a deadlock, no one wins.

"I just think that everybody is losing right now. The teachers and the kids," said Kim Goetz, a parent with two children in the district.

Some protesting teachers have stopped taking on after school responsibilities leaving clubs without advisors and sports in need of volunteers.

After school sports at the elementary level are being phased out altogether.

The teacher's union president tells NewsChannel 7 it plans to issue a public statement of its own on Thursday.
