A Stevens Point pilot has died of injuries suffered when his ultralight plane crashed landed at an airport near Iola. The accident happened Wednesday at the Central County Airport five miles east of Iola.
Seventy-six-year-old Erling Uttech passed away at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center where he was airlifted after the crash.
Witnesses reported hearing the plane's engines sputter as it was leveling off about 200 feet above the ground. Then it went down nose first onto the grass airstrip.
