October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month and the local chapter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation is hoping to raise awareness using the color pink.

Next week the Passionately Pink for the Cure campaign is kicking off in the Wausau area.

Many local businesses are asking employees to participate by either wearing pink or making a donation.

Money raised will be used for research, assisting women who can’t afford mammograms and educating about the importance of early breast cancer detection and the impact breast cancer can have.

Susan Ford-Hoffert is the President of the Central Wisconsin Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. “We have some barriers,” she says. “There are some cultural barriers, language barriers, financial barriers. We need to help break them down.”
