There are more than 50 different topics a boy scout can learn. From academics, to sports and to many life lessons. Now local scouts are learning their lessons from playing video games.
A few parents were a little uncertain about the program when it first started, but they said it is turning out to be very successful with life long lessons.
Being a Cub Scout means learning special skills and for each one, you earn a loop for your belt.
Christian Pierce, a young cub scout, wears them proudly.
Pierce said, "we had to make a chart for when we stop and we had to play with friends."
In between the banter and the races against the Super Mario Brothers it is perspective these scouts are gaining to earn a video game loop.
"We also have to look up good prices for games from good places", said Christian Caputo.
They also have to "play with a grown-up and have fun with the family," Pierce added.
However most of all the scouts have to, "teach someone else to play video games," Catupo said.
Caputo's father agrees with what the Cub Scouts are doing, he said, "I hope the most important thing kids come away with is that video games are another aspect of entertainment and too much of it is a bad thing but in small amounts, it can be a lot of fun."
In between the fun and games, the scouts learn the responsibility of setting time limits and doing chores in between.
