September is National Coupon Month. And thanks to the Internet and the economy, they're actually becoming more popular.
A new study shows Americans are using coupons more and more to save money on groceries and household goods. Last year, companies gave out more than 311 billion of them, and consumers are cashing them in about 23 percent more often.
"We clip coupons in the paper and now we go on the Internet and go to the coupon websites on the Internet and pick out what I want from that and print them out on our computer," says coupon clipper, Stephen Blonsky.
The Blonskys say they've been clipping coupons for years, and they save between 10 and 15 percent on their grocery bills each trip. The couple recommends exchanging coupons with friends to maximize your savings.
"We're no longer of the baby era, so if there's coupons and I know my friends need diapers or something, I'll clip them and give them to them and they're always very grateful," says Susan Blonsky.
Stores are now also offering coupon printers right in the aisles, and sometimes items in stores have coupons taped on them.
