The popularity of local farmer's markets might have something to do with people wanting fresh fruits and vegetables to put on their kitchen tables.

A Marathon County Dairy Agent says often times foods lose vitamins and other nutrients when they have to be packaged and shipped half way across the world.

But he says it's knowing exactly where the food on their kitchen table comes from that has the biggest draw.

"What I hear most often is just consumers knowing where their food is coming from and even having somewhat of a relationship with local farms," says Mike Wildeck, UW-Extension Dairy Agent.

He says there's a certain level of trust between the consumer and a farmer.

But he says going to a farmer's market or a far, you can't beat fresh food.
