If any of Chueng Lee's fellow police officers knew there was abuse in his past, they would have reported it, says Wausau Police Chief Jeff Hardel.

Police are continuing their internal investigation into Lee, who is accused of trying to kill his wife among other charges in both Shawano and Marathon Counties.

He has been placed on administrative leave with pay.

According to the criminal complaint:

Before he forced his wife into her vehicle in Weston, he told her he was going to kill her.

He then drove to near the Shawano County village of Bowler where he removed her seatbelt and crashed into a bridge.

She is recovering in a hospital.

Lee is being held on $500,000 bond, denying the defense's request at his initial appearance in Monday in Shawano County that he be held on $10,000 due to his history and job.

Prosecutors argued that Lee has another wife in Laos and travels there often, making him a flight risk.

Lee, 45, was formally charged with first-degree attempted intentional homicide, false imprisonment and aggravated battery.

A preliminary hearing in which the judge will decide if there is enough evidence to warrant a trial is scheduled for October 9.

Lee was also charged Monday afternoon in Marathon County with kidnapping, second-degree sexual assault, false imprisonment, threats to injure and stalking resulting in bodily harm.

Authorities in Shawano County say Lee crashed their vehicle into a concrete bridge near Bowler on September 18.

Deputies say when they arrived at the scene, Chueng's wife, 40, pleaded with them to arrest him because she said he was trying to kill her.
