Most kids get their history lessons by sitting in a classroom.
But at the Marathon County Historical Society, they get to learn about it through hands-on activities.
"It's supposed to be a lot of fun in hopes that we are teaching kids that history can be fun," says Anna Chilsen Straub, Curator of Education at the Marathon County Historical Society.
A history lesson that gives kids a chance to learn about how their ancestors got to America.
"I'm learning about immigration and I think it's a very interesting subject because I love history," says 11-year-old Noah.
"We've learned about immigrants and what they would take and what we would take and the difference that, we would take now versus what they would take back then," says 9-year-old David.
Here's what these kids would take along with them.
"I really wanted to take as much money along as possible, sleeping bags, D.S. with a charger, games, and a net for fishing for food," says David.
"I drew a stuffed turtle, my pet fish, a flashlight and some books," says 9-year-old Morgan.
"I would take my princess pillow, my sleeping bag, my bear, my purse with money in it," says 7-year-old Willow.
"I drew my stuffed tree frog, my Nintendo D.S., and language book food, hot dogs and ketchup," says Noah.
And while that's probably not what most immigrants would have brought along with them to America years ago, these kids say it teaches them a big lesson.
"I've gotta say it helps people learn about their ancestors and where they're from," says Noah.
The kids also got to see a historical model train and tour the Leigh Yawkey house.
