Today marks the one year anniversary of Kayla Berg's disappearance. Close ones gathered tonight to show that they're not giving up hope in finding the missing teen.
"It's been horrifying, lots of sleepless nights, lots of tears, lots of prayers," says Hope Sprenger. The past year has been unbearable for her, a nightmare that no parent should have to live. That's because she hasn't seen her daughter, Kayla Berg, since August 11th of last year.
Hope says, "I just keep hoping that everyday that that will be the day, and it just never seems to happen."
Investigators continue to follow up on leads and it seems Kayla disappeared without a trace. But that doesn't mean that anyone has forgotten about her.
Loved ones gathered on Wednesday to mark the one year anniversary of her disappearance. Family told me what they miss most about Kayla.
Her grandmother, Ardis Speanbauer says, "She was always very peppy and energetic, and I miss the fact that she isn't coming over and saying 'Hi Grandma'."
Everyone wore pink and black ribbons and listened to some of Kayla's favorite music. Antigo Police Chief Eric Roller said a few words about the ongoing case.
And Kayla's mom told the crowd she never wants her daughter's story or memory to burn out.
"Until she is found or we know what happened to her, she needs to remain out there and as much as I can I will do that," Hope says.
If you have any information about Kayla Berg's disappearance call the Langlade County Sheriff's Department at 715-627-6411.
