UPDATE: Thurs 3:40 PM, Feb. 13, 2014

Crews worked to removed a 10-ton bulldozer from Lake Wissota in Chippewa County Thursday.

According to WEAU-TV, a trench was cut in the ice and divers attached cables to the bulldozer to pull it to shore.

Crews were able to pull it with a tank transporter about 300 feet before it got caught on debris. The bulldozer then tipped over with it's blade digging into the lake bottom. Now stalled, crews brought in a 30-foot-log to act as a fulcrum to lift the bulldozer out of the debris with the cable pulling over the tip of the log.

Once it's loose, the crew hopes to be able to continue winching the bulldozer back to shore. When it's close enough, they then plan to cut a hole big enough to bring the bulldozer back on land.

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (AP) -- Weekend snowmobile races on Lake Wissota in Chippewa County were canceled after a bulldozer went through the ice.

Sheriff's officials say Kirk Brown of Brown Excavation was using the bulldozer to get a race track ready for Saturday's Pro Vintage race when the 10-ton bulldozer broke through the ice in 40 feet of water several hundred yards from shore.

WQOW-TV says Brown jumped to safety just before the bulldozer sunk. The DNR says it will work with Brown to recover the bulldozer.
