UPDATE: Driver Not at Fault in Wausau Bicycle Accident

UPDATE: Thurs 2:30 PM, Oct. 31, 2013

A Captain from the Wausau Police Department says a teenage driver accused of striking a bicyclist was not at fault.

Captain Hagenbucher said the bicyclist did have a head injury, however he was talking prior to being transported by ambulance. The bicyclist's name is expected to be released Friday.

The driver was not injured.

A man is hospitalized after being struck by a car while riding his bike on Wausau's west side Wednesday afternoon.

The accident happened around 3:30 this afternoon near the Pizza Hut at the intersection of 1st Avenue and Alexander Street.

Terry Fenwick saw the accident happen from his office and ran across the street to help the injured cyclist.
He is hoping for the best for both the man struck as well as for the driver.

"Anytime you can help it is good. We hope that he turns out to be ok and i hope the girl [the driver] ends up ok too,” he explains.

There is no word yet on the man's condition.

ORIGINAL STORY: Wed 4:08 PM, Oct. 30, 2013

One person has been taken to a Wausau hospital by ambulance after the report of car vs. pedestrian accident on First Avenue near Pizza Hut.

EMS crews were paged to the area around 3:39 p.m. Wednesday.

Our reporter at the scene said a bicycle is pinned beneath a vehicle and First Avenue has been reduced to one lane.

A portion of Alexander Street has also been closed.
