UPDATE: Names Released in Hwy 8 Fatality

The Oneida County Sheriff's Department is releasing the names of the people involved in a fatal accident along Highway 8 and Shady Rest Road Friday.

At approximately 9:57 AM, the Oneida County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call of a vehicle crash involving a passenger car and a van. Preliminary investigation indicates a westbound passenger car lost control and entered into the eastbound lane of traffic and struck and eastbound van. The driver of the westbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the passenger car was identified as 36-year old Monica A. Bartishofski of Rhinelander. The driver and the occupant from the eastbound van were transported to Saint Mary's Hospital and treated for non-threatening injuries. The driver of the eastbound van was identified as 50-year old Lynne Sundberg Simmer of Eagle River.


One person has died after a two vehicle crash Friday morning in Oneida County.

According to a press release from the Oneida County Sheriff's Department the crash occurred just before 10 a.m. on Highway 8 and Shady Rest Road southwest of Rhinelander, in the Town of Woodboro.

Authorities say the crash involved a passenger car and a van.

Preliminary investigation indicates one fatality and two others were transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital.

The names are being withheld pending notification of their families.

Oneida County Deputies along with Crescent Fire Department, Rhinelander Fire Department, and Woodboro First Responders responded to the scene. The Oneida County Sheriff's Office and Oneida County Medical Examiner's Office are continuing their investigation into the events surrounding the fatal crash.
