The manager at Downtown Wausau Airport, John Chmiel says FAA investigators will return to the scene of a plane crash Thursday morning. They were there Wednesday after a small plane crashed, injuring the pilot.
A spokesperson at his office identifies the pilot as 62-year-old Randall Pack, a Milwaukee dentist. A Wausau Aspirus Hospital spokesperson says he has been discharged. It's unknown whether Pack went home or was transferred to another hospital.
He was taken to Aspirus following a plane crash around 8:30 am Wednesday.
Investigators on scene tell us it was a small six-person plane.
Chmiel says Pack clipped a tree near the airport. He was found outside the aircraft when emergency responders arrived. Pack was alert and conscious, but his condition is unknown.
Chmiel says the airport is always prepared for such accidents to happen. "We do train for accidents at the airport. W e have procedures in place to do that, so we just followed our procedures and that's how we were able to get the first responders out to the crash site so quickly."
