UPDATE: Victim in Shawano Co. Crash ID'ed

The Shawano County Sheriff's Department has released the name of a woman killed in a two-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon east of Wittenberg.

A sergeant with the department said Mary Sawicki, 60, of Tigerton was injured in the crash and died at a nearby hospital.

Lori Bessette, 42, of Tigerton was also injured in the crash and was transported to the hospital by ambulance. The extent of her injuries is unknown.

Investigators said Sawicki was attempting to turn left onto Highway 29, and was struck by Bessette.

One person is dead and another injured after two cars collided in Shawano County.

The Shawano County Sheriff's Department says it happened on State Highway 29 at County Highway J, in the Town of Morris just before 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. That location is east of the city of Wittenberg.

The initial investigation shows one vehicle was northbound on Co. Hwy. J and attempting to make a left turn onto Hwy. 29. The driver pulled out in front of eastbound traffic and was hit. She was airlifted to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead. The driver in the eastbound traffic was taken to a hospital; however the extent of her injuries is unknown.

Deputies say both drivers were wearing their seat belts, and both were from the Tigerton area. The names of both drivers are not being released at this time.

The crash is under investigation.
