Every month we bring you life-saving information during our Healthcheck 7 reports.

It's part of our commitment to fighting the battle against cancer in Northcentral Wisconsin.

A Wausau doctor urges you to add cancer screenings to your New Year's Resolution list, especially a skin exam.

He says it's important for the older population to have their skin checked by a doctor once a year.

"It's a good idea for your doctor to get you undressed and look at your skin all over and make sure there isn't some lesion that looks scary and needs to be removed," says Dr. Bart Hobson, an Urgent Care Physician at Marshfield Clinic, Wausau.

The doctor says not wearing sunscreen can allow harmful UV rays to reach your skin, which could increase your risk of cancer overtime.
